African Christian Health Association Platform Consultant - Documentation of Best Practices Jobs in Kenya

Introduction

The Africa Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) is a regional organization that provides a platform for Christian health Associations and networks in Africa. ACHAP brings together more than 40 national level faith-based networks providing health services through faith-based health facilities and programs in 32 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to share resources, establish technical working groups (TWGs), and provide ongoing training and technical assistance (TA) to its members.

In addition, governments see ACHAP members as critical players, and in many African countries, partner with them to provide health support services in government facilities and at the community level.

Program Background

The African Christian Health Associations Platform (ACHAP) is implementing the Promoting COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Through Faith-Based Networks in Africa project.

The project provides substantial resources to two focus Christian Health Associations (CHAs) that have the capacity and opportunity to make a significant contribution to vaccine rollout efforts in coordination with their respective Ministry of Health (MoH): the Zimbabwe Association of Church-Related Hospitals (ZACH) and the Christian Health Association Sierra Leone (CHASL), and is further providing small grants to six other CHAs that include: Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ), Christian Health Association of Liberia (CHAL), Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC), Church of Jesus Christ Madagascar (FJKM), Association des Oeuvres Médicales pour la Sante en Centrafrique (ASSOMESCA), and Initiatives Chretiennes Pour La Promotion Humaine (ICPH)

Project overall goal: To reduce the loss of life and spread of COVID-19 in Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to global health security through targeted capacity strengthening of Christian Health Association networks.

Project Objectives:

  • Objective 1: CHAs work through their member institutions to deliver or promote COVID-19 vaccines in their respective countries.

  • Objective 2: Faith-based health providers and community and religious leaders are engaged in the promotion of trusted and evidence-based communication (and countering misinformation) around COVID-19 vaccines and other public health issues.

  • Objective 3: ACHAP works effectively at international levels to ensure that CHAs are recognized and resourced as critical partners with their national ministries of health in addressing global health security.

    Activity Rationale

    The documentation of best practices and lessons learned about COVID-19 is crucial due to the unprecedented nature and global impact of the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, healthcare professionals, scientists, researchers, and policymakers have faced numerous challenges and made significant advancements in understanding and managing the virus. Documenting these experiences and knowledge serves several important purposes:

  • Knowledge Sharing: Documenting best practices and lessons learned will ensure that valuable information and expertise are shared among professionals and organizations globally. This knowledge sharing will help in disseminating effective strategies, treatment protocols, preventive measures, and public health interventions, enabling countries and communities to learn from each other's experiences and make informed decisions.

  • Future Preparedness: The documentation of best practices and lessons learned will provide a foundation for future preparedness. By analyzing the successes and failures in managing the pandemic, healthcare systems can identify gaps, areas for improvement, and potential strategies for mitigating future outbreaks or similar health crises. Furthermore, it allows policymakers and public health officials to develop evidence-based plans, policies, and guidelines that can be implemented quickly and efficiently in future emergencies.

  • Research and Innovation**:** Documented best practices and lessons learned provide a rich source of data for research and innovation. Researchers can analyze the documented information to gain insights into the virus's behavior, transmission dynamics, clinical manifestations, and treatment outcomes. This knowledge can contribute to the development of new therapies, vaccines, diagnostic tools, and
    public health strategies.

  • Accountability and Evaluation**:** Documentation ensures accountability and evaluation of the response to the pandemic. By documenting actions taken, decisions made, and their outcomes, it becomes possible to assess the effectiveness of interventions and identify areas where improvements are needed.
