ActionAid NGO Executive Director Jobs in Nairobi Kenya
We seek to recruit an Executive Director who shall be responsible for overall leadership and management of ActionAid International Kenya’s operations in line with established policies, principles and operating practice of ActionAid and the political, social, cultural & economic environment.
Woking alongside a committed Board, Team of Colleagues and partner organizations in the delivery of our mision and vision.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities;
Organizational Development and Institutional capacity
Overseeing development, implementation of AAIK’s strategic plan, policies, procedures,
philosophy and principles in line with AAI and AAIK priorities;
Maintaining regular communication
with the Board Chair, the Team Leader Africa Affiliates and across other regions as appropriate;
Providing inputs to AAI and AAIK
activities including participation in task forces, seminars, training and conferences;
Advising the Board on matters
related to the AAIK’s operations;
Ensuring availability of skilled and
optimal number of employees for
effective and efficient execution of organization’s activities;
Ensuring AAIK operates within the
legal framework and agreements with the Kenyan Government.
Overseeing performance management in
the organisation; and
Providing support to the AAIK staff
for effective and efficient implementation of Country Strategy Paper.
Programme Implementation
Overseeing AAIK’s programme
activities in accordance with sound management practice and ActionAid’s development policies and accountability systems;
Ensuring all programme activities
are sensitive to and responsive to changes in the political, social, and economic environment;
Ensuring AAIK programmes are well balanced, well documented and implemented in an effective and efficient manner;
Overseeing development of AAIK's capacity to document, disseminate and learn from development work;
Overseeing establishment and management of co-operative relationships with partners and other stakeholders;
Overseeing development and maintenance of sound relations with policy, research and advocacy specialists at regional and
international levels; and
Overseeing programme monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Financial Management & Control
Ensuring organization’s expenditure/disbursement of resources
are in accordance with established policies and procedures;
Overseeing provision of timely and accurate financial reports as required by the government, AAI, donors and other stakeholders;
Overseeing partnership and fundraising activities in AAIK.
External Relations
Overseeing establishment, development and maintenance of excellent working relationships with the Kenyan government (national and county level officials), media, donors/sponsors
and other stakeholders.
Overseeing organisation image, branding and public relations and ensuring that published material accurately reflects the
views, values and culture of the AAIK.
Emergency Preparedness
Overseeing development, and implementation of contingency plans for all kinds of emergencies; and
Presentation of AAIK contingency plans to the Board Chair and
the Team Leader Africa Affiliates for approval and inclusion
in AAI emergency response mechanisms.
Staff Management, Development and Performance Measurement:
Ensuring efficient and effective management of staff within the Department taking into account staff skills and leave allowance;
Undertake performance appraisal for staff in the Department and initiation of correction actions for identified gaps;
Undertaking training of staff within the Department; and
Development of organizational wide performance measurement and impact assessment indicators.
Participate in Board and committee meetings as the secretary
to the Board and give necessary support and information.
Qualifications
Appointment to this position will be made from a person who:
Holds an MBA or Masters Degree in Social
Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized
University OR
A Bachelors degree and have at least 15 years working experience in social development work in an INGO or a large organization;
Have satisfactorily served as Head of a
Division in AAIK or a comparable position with
similar responsibilities in similar
organizations for a minimum period of five (5)
years;
Has in-depth understanding of programming
issues and policy work at state, national and
international levels;
Has sound and up to date knowledge of
development concepts, methodologies and
techniques including demonstrated expertise in
development field.
Have demonstrated high leadership and management capability;
Have high degree of integrity and dependability;
Have excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills;
Proven ability in relationship building through negotiations and networking;
Strong team player and an excellent decision maker; and
Proficiency in use of MS Suite
