A4HU is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Social Entrepreneurship Manager to
support investment and development of entrepreneurs who have graduated from the POWER
(Providing Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs in Reproductive Health) Accelerator Pilot Program.
The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will build and strengthen these family planning, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (FP/SRHR) start-ups to maximize their impact and sustainability.
Working closely with our partner, Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW), the Manager will assess the potential of each startup towards individual investment, actively seek and engage with external investors and stakeholders on behalf of the entrepreneurs, and create implementation plans for individual investments.
Additionally, the Social Entrepreneurship Manager will engage in multi-sectoral mapping and networking, seek to synergize startups with ongoing projects at A4HU, and will expand entrepreneurship and economic empowerment opportunities among Community Based Organisations (CBOs), Youth Empowerment Centers (YECs), and other youth clubs connected and working with
A4HU.
The ideal candidate should have proven experience in partnership building and networking across various sectors, familiarity with Uganda’s startup business environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with entrepreneurs.
Key Responsibilities:• Maintain, develop, and expand contact with POWER entrepreneurs via the Alumni Network.
• Submit regular progress reports to the A4HU CEO and DSW.
• Sector mapping, partnership, and networking: The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will work towards building networks and exploring new partnerships to help expand impact and sustainability of POWER entrepreneurs. This will involve sector mapping
(academic, private sector, public sector, and social field) and targeting opportunities
conducive to social entrepreneurship growth.
• The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will assess the potential and feasibility of each entrepreneur startup towards individual investment (e.g. market demand, potential impact, operational requirements , etc.), and seek to identify possible synergies with entrepreneurs and A4HU/DSW projects in Uganda.
• The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will work to secure external investment for ongoing startups that resulted from the POWER accelerator, in addition to exploring
investment and expansion for new FP/SRHR social entrepreneurship opportunities within A4HU’s network. This will also involve contacting banks to develop youth-friendly financial products.
• The Manager will work with entrepreneurs in developing implementation plans for
individual investment in the entrepreneurs, including specific milestones, deliverables,
and resource requirements.
• The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will seek to utilize and leverage existing networks, such as A4HU's Youth Network.
• The Social Entrepreneurship Manager will create an end of year report that will analyze impact of investments, outcomes achieved, and the lessons learned.
Person Specifications• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, social sciences,
or international development.
• Proven experience in partnership building, networking, and outreach activities with a
variety of stakeholders and organizations.
• Strong understanding of the start-up investment scene in Uganda, with proven ability
to develop networks and contacts in this field.
• Sound knowledge of start-up and social enterprise project planning with experience in
creating implementation plans.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to draft effective
grant proposals and progress reports.
• Experience in market analysis, demand assessment, and identification of gaps and
challenges facing women-led FP/SRHR startups in Uganda.
• Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and team members
locally and internationally.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, with strong organizational and
multitasking skills.
