Job Title Accountant
Directly Reports to Vicar
Indirect Reporting Church Treasurer
1. Job SummaryResponsible for administering all aspects of the church finances, processing of accounting
transactions, provision of timely and accurate financial information, financial management including
development of budgets and cash flow, and safeguarding the assets of the Church from loss arising
from fraud or error.
The position holder works in partnership with multiple stakeholders in the
Church.
2. Key Responsibilities Maintain accounting records including timely recording of all income and expenditure items
in the accounting system.
Assist ministries and committees in their work of program registration, form management
for payments, and capital campaign administration as directed by PCC.
Prepare financial reports including quarterly giving statements, monthly reports for the PCC
and individual ministry teams, and year-end financial reports for annual meetings.
Maintain records of weekly contributions to the general fund, building fund, special fund,
and any donor designated funds.
Process invoices submitted for payment, write and submit cheques to the treasurer for
signature, and ensure cheques are dispatched to drawees.
Submit a listing of all checks written during the month to the Church Treasurer and
Administrator.
Ensure prudent cash management which includes preparing monthly cash flow projections
and tracking bank balances for all accounts (regular and investment accounts).
Prepare monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and submit to the treasurer for review and
approval.
Monitor and control payables and receivables accounts.
Prepare and submit the annual budget to the PCC for approval and adoption and monitor
expenditure against approved budget.
Process payroll and manage related processes which include monthly PAYE payments,
deduction and remittance of statutory and non-statutory deductions, and monthly
and
annual payroll returns.
Maintain a comprehensive inventory of the Church’s furniture, equipment, and office
supplies.
Procure office stationery and supplies as directed by the Vicar.
Maintain adequate systems of internal controls.
Manage petty cash.
Timely preparation for annual external financial audits and any other audits that may be
commissioned.
Carry out regular back-up of computer system.
Assist with maintaining Christ Church member database.
Carry out any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the
Vicar or Chairpersons of the respective Ministry Committees.
3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal
schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training).
(a) Level of Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or any related discipline.
(b) Specialised Training/Professional Qualifications:
Part Professional accounting qualifications – At least CPA II.
(c) Other Competencies:
Demonstrated Christian faith commitment.
Practical experience in fund-based accounting and account reconciliation.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Access, and
specific fund-based accounting software.
Attention to detail and precision in account reconciliation and report generation.
Good interpersonal skills and teamwork.
Dependable, self-drive and self-initiative.
(d) Job Experience:
At least three years’ experience in a similar position.
