Role Purpose

As a Senior Associate-Quality and Risk Management, you will be responsible for aligning local and regional efforts with BDO Leadership to implement and oversee quality control systems and risk management activities. Your focus will be on implementing firm-wide policies to mitigate potential risks and uphold high-quality standards, ensuring compliance with BDO manuals and global policies.

Duties And Responsibilities

Quality and Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain a robust risk and quality management plan and create policies for BDO Uganda and the East Africa region.

  • Conduct internal compliance testing to ensure engagement teams comply with quality control systems and policies, by applying a systematic approach to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across all organizational processes.

  • Participate in independent testing of quality control systems, including ISQM 1 implementation.

    Process Improvement and Compliance

  • Continuously assess and enhance quality control systems and policies to meet global and regional standards.

  • Ensure compliance with BDO Service Line Manual (s), Risk Management Manual, ISQM 1 Manual, and related policies.

    Documentation and Communication

  • Ensure proper documentation of quality and risk management systems, policies, and processes.

  • Communicate, liaise, and collaborate with BDO regional and global teams on quality and risk management matters.

    Reporting and Analysis

  • Conduct risk assessments and create risk registers ensuring all identified risks are quantified and managed effectively.

  • Prepare regular reports on quality and risk management activities, compliance testing, and outcomes.

    Staff & Related Matters

  • Liaise with the staff scheduling managers for an efficient allocation of staff within the EA region, up-to-date resource planning, and ensure that all procedures relating to this activity are complied with.

  • Monitor and support the HR units to ensure that all audit staff members complete their performance goals and feedback within agreed timelines

  • Liaise with regional learning & development champion/manager/ HR units to monitor the training program for
    the year and ensure that staff receive timely bookings and communications.

  • Liaise with HR units to ensure an up-to-date filing system for audit’s human resource issues and ensure that documents, both physical and electronic are not removed from their respective files.

  • Contribute internally by facilitating internal courses and training relating to audit quality and risk management.

  • Counsel, appraise, develop, and motivate junior staff as appropriate

    Skills And Core Competencies Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Understanding of basic Ugandan local laws and regulations, especially those applicable to employment and businesses

  • Understanding of the importance of quality and risk management, with the ability to conceptualize support to regional internal audit or compliance team

  • Proven ability to remain calm, focused, and organized and to deliver results on time when under pressure and with rapidly changing circumstances

  • A commitment to and understanding of the principles relating to the firm’s values & culture

  • Substantial experience in a related business environment preferably in an audit role

  • Excellent and effective communication skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a discreet and professional manner

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with others, at all Firm levels in the EA region

  • Ability to multi-task and find alternative solutions when appropriate

  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • Self-motivated and organized
