Job Summary

Measure, advise, report, and forecast credit provision. This includes analysing and liaising with key stakeholders (e.g., collections, finance, business, etc.) to drive financial performance such that losses are within risk appetite.

Key Accountabilities

Outputs to deliver against the purpose:

  • Analyze and measure monthly impairment numbers

  • Understand the drivers of the impairment charge

  • Forecast credit provision for the different budgeting periods, i.e., revised annual forecasts, short-term plans (12 months), and medium-term plans (60 months).

  • Assist in setting collection targets (on and off-balance sheet) in line with the budget.

  • Analyze collections performance in line with risk appetite.

  • Measure the impacts of any credit policy change, including new and existing customer acquisition strategies as well as collections strategies.

  • Calculate potential losses for once-off risk events.

  • Understanding of the accounting process and financial reporting (including disclosure reporting)

  • Ad hoc analysis.

    Stakeholder Management:

  • Liaise with various internal stakeholders (e.g., Risk Management, Credit Lending, Product Head, Collections, BU Finance) to convey impairment numbers and portfolio performance, the impact of model and other once-off policy changes/events to these numbers, emerging risks, sign off impairment budgets, etc.

  • Analyze and report impairment performance and trends to the Portfolio Manager.

    Analysis and Reporting:

  • Compile reports in line with the reporting requirements and portfolio measures for the product Risk
    Management team through the Absa committee structures.

  • Ensure monthly Portfolio Performance Reports (with commentary) are completed in accordance with the agreed deadlines and required standards

  • Ensure the development of MI as required.

  • Produce monthly account level impairment and capital data and reports.

  • Produce reports related to industry impairments to track performance relative to the market and to support risk appetite discussions.

    Experience Required:

  • B Degree in Business or Mathematics or Statistics or similar.

  • 3 years’ experience is required, in data analysis utilizing a standard statistical package such as SAS.

  • 1 year experience in SAS Advanced programming for statistical analysis & manipulation of very large data sets.

  • Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
