Objective Under the general supervision of the Chief of Health, the direct supervision of the Disease Prevention and Control Cluster Manager (P4) and in close collaboration with the Addis Ababa and other region-based Health Specialists, contribute to the prevention and control of malaria outbreak and other similar outbreak affecting children, women, and other vulnerable communities.
Specifically, the recruited person will support FMOH and RHBs for the Prevention and control of malaria outbreak.
Justification
Current year climate (heavy rainfall) conducive environment for malaria transmission and malaria outbreak began the report in Western Ethiopia.
Peak malaria transmission season for Ethiopia is from September to December and maintaining TA during this period is crucial
Support other vector born (mosquito) disease outbreaks in Eastern Ethiopia (dengue fever, Chikungunya)
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, TA support will contribute to the Continuation of essential health services for Malaria prevention including the distribution of LLIN through the campaign, etc
Tasks
The following tasks will be required
support on the regional malaria situation follow-up, epidemic preparedness, detection, and mitigation matters.
Plan organize and conduct field assessments pertaining to malaria outbreak for timely response
Provide support to establish Rapid Response Team (RRT) to be deployed to the outbreak affected regional states, zones and woredas to support the national/regional efforts on malaria containment activities. Made a follow up on the RRT team assigned to the regions and provided technical.
Provide technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health on planning, organizing, implementation and Monitoring and evaluation of malaria outbreak prevention and control interventions in Regions, Woredas in the field settings.
Provide technical support in outbreak affected regions and woredas to strengthen response in terms of
vector control and case management interventions.
Supporting the capacity building efforts of health workers and public health experts on malaria outbreak prevention and response.
Prepare monthly progress reports as part of performance monitoring.
Assess and support in the provision of corrective measures in the prevention of disruption of malaria prevention and control services as part of the broader continuation of essential health service in light of COVID-19 pandemic
Methodology
In consultation with FMOH and regional health bureaus, technical assistance to identify key activities to be supported on monthly basis.
Participate and provide inputs in technical meetings, training, prepare presentations and documents progresses and challenges, etc
Conduct field trips on monitoring implementations and assessments of malaria interventions
Prepare and submit a monthly progress report
Job Requirements
Academic qualifications
Advanced degree in health or health related field of science related to malaria control.
Employment Experience
Seven (7) years progressively responsible professional work experience at least 5 years of which working at the national/regional level on malaria control activities including malaria outbreak prevention and control
Language skill
Fluent in English both, spoken and written
Other
Experience in malaria prevention and control including outbreak prevention and control
Experience in coordination of multiple partners strongly desired
Has to experience in Computer skills and their applications
Experience in malaria program management in a humanitarian context will be an asset.
