Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is a regional African-led non-governmental organisation that supports livelihood-challenged communities in East and Southern Africa to sustainably improve their well-being and standard of living.
With Country Programmes in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Zambia and recently in Djibouti, AAH-I has over 25 years’ experience working with communities in conflict and post conflict situations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities.
More recently AAH-I has expanded its activities to work with other marginalised communities, including pastoralists and people
living in informal urban settlements.
AAH-I Kenya County Programme (AAH-K) is looking for a committed individual for a Community Mobiliser position to support the Mara project team.
The individual will be the project ambassador in the community and work closely with the Project officer, Training, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and the community
focal persons and support office administration and field activities in Mara.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key activities will involve the target group’s mobilisations for the project activities in all the project target
areas.
He/she will be tasked with planning, organising training, mobilising respective groups for planned activities within the framework of the project contractual agreement.
The community mobiliser will provide mobilisation technical support to the team:
In planning and organising group meetings, support groups in setting up groups constitutions, support in training as per agreed training needs, follow up and track implementation of planned group activities.
Coordinate the social, learnings and activity interactions between the different groups
Serve as the primary link between the groups and AAH-K, developing an infrastructure for both dialogue and conflict resolution
Establish and build AAH-K relationships with community and other stakeholders
Actively promote the AAH-K approach to livelihoods with emphasis on promoting group development through support, coaching, mentoring, feedback and identification of investment needs and opportunities.
Perform any other functions deemed necessary or as delegated by the supervisor in order to meet the organizational mandate
Support the Mara project team in administrative and logistics functions
Maintaining weekly and monthly reports on the progress of the project, documenting the lessons learnt in all project components
Qualification
Diploma in Community Development or relevant tertiary qualification in social and community studies, and/or experience in related fields
Possess proven practical knowledge of the program development cycle and design and
management qualities.
At least 3 years of progressive community mobilization including understanding of
and ability to identify, promote empowering and developmental models in community work through highly effective communication skills – in all forms, especially verbal and written.
Proven credibility, integrity and professionalism – demonstrate these characteristics at all times.
The ability to assist groups to formulate their ideas into constructive actions, ability to undertake community based research, and to effectively complete projects.
Exercises sound judgment and political sensitivity – especially in relation to the community organisation, local governments etc.
Desirable Skills
Field experience.
Knowledge and exposure to the social and cultural values of the region concerned.
Proficiency in local language(s).
Experience in formulating and accompanying group in implementing projects
A proven track record working well with the local community.
