NairoBits Trust has been in existence since 1999 and is registered as a Trust under the Laws of Kenya with the aim of youth empowerment. Its target focus area is the youth from the informal settlement areas of Nairobi which constitutes 60% of the total population estimated at 7 million.
The Trust equips the youths with knowledge in Web Design, Information Technology skills, Creative Multimedia, Entrepreneurship and Sexual Reproductive Health. The Trust envisages a situation where 70% of the urban informal settlement youths access Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills that would improve their employability and ability to enter the labour market.
General Manager
Key Responsibilities:
Act as secretary to the Board of trustees.
Work in liaison with the Nairobits Advisory Board and Nairobits Management Team
Keep abreast with changes in the ICT sector with regards to youth related issues
Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees to keep them a breast of the developments of the organization, organize Board of Trustees meetings in liaison with the chairman and ensure that Board minutes and papers are prepared on time and circulated as required.
Ensure the implementation of the Board of Trustees policy decisions and directives.
Ensure the development and implementation of Nairobits long and medium term strategies, goals and objectives.
Direct and supervise the work and resources of Nairobits Trust.
Ensure proper planning, follow up, implementation, evaluation effective and efficient co-ordination of the key activities.
Ensure the recruitment the required staff and types of well-motivated, trained and developed staff to ensure that the organization achieves its mission and objectives.
Prepare, gain acceptance, confidence of the donors through prudent management of the funded programmes and that sufficient human, financial material capital is secured.
Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with donors, relevant agencies and other stakeholders and exchange information and views to ensure that the Nairobits is providing the appropriate range and quality of its services.
Develop and maintain programmes to ensure that Nairobits is effective and efficient as an organization and apply cost-effective methods and approaches and provide leading cutting-edge services.
Prepare and monitor the implementation of the annual budget to ensure that budget targets are met.
Develop and maintain an effective public relations strategy to promote the image of Nairobits among the Donors and the wider communication.
Represent the organization in negotiations with potential partners to secure the most effective contract terms of Nairobits Trust.
Develop and maintain working systems, procedures, policies, processes and result-oriented culture that encourages teamwork to ensure that Nairobits Trust is managed on a platform of best practices.

Create linkages with Government
Ensure checks and balances in Nairobits Programmes

Job specifications:
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
A university graduate level of intellect, preferably with a higher degree in the management, business and development discipline. A relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.
Skills and Attributes:
Willingness and ability to relate with the youth, poor, vulnerable and the marginalised
Ready to work in a dynamic environment
A proven record of success in senior-level in the related industry.
Sound knowledge of the industry, the development sector and the socio-economic and political situation in Kenya and demands of conflicting interests.
Sound knowledge of organizational development to capacity building.
An understanding of financial management and basic activity and wider management principles and techniques.
Proven fundraising abilities and networking.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership and the ability to resolve conflicts.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak and write English.
Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
Good working knowledge of computers and computer applications.
Willing to travel regularly including working harsh conditions.
Be able to mentor and motivate junior staff
Working Experience:
At least 5 years of senior level experience in management of people, programmes, projects and resources.
Knowledge of advanced computer applications is an added advantage
