The Youth Think Tank is an initiative of Mastercard Foundation implemented in partnership with Restless Development Uganda in seven African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Zambia and Malawi.
This program sees young researchers as meaningful partners in generating high-quality evidence on youth livelihoods, leading every step of the research process.

Essential requirements | Nationalsof the participating countries (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia and Ghana) aged 18-24 years Must hold valid passport and associated travel documents or demonstrate timeliness to secure them |
Reports to | ProgrammeCoordinator via remote support supervision. Young Researchers will be expected to work more virtually (online) and independently (in a country team) to deliver the expected outputs. |
Expected travel | There will be travel to at least 3 workshops in 2021 that will include the research design workshop in February 2021, an analysis workshop in May 2021 and launch events |
Key Priorities
• Attend and contribute to the research design by providing country specific context based on your experiences and lived realities of youth in your country
• Liaise with a thematic country team of 3 peers to lead quality data collection from young people, government, Private Sector, Civil Society, communities and other stakeholders
• Analyse collated data to generate country specific report
• Lead community research co-design workshops with community members, Mastercard Foundation partners and other development agencies
• Share and discuss research findings through launch events convened by Restless Development and Mastercard Foundation and through your planned in country spaces

What we expect of the Youth Think Tank Researcher
◊ Research-minded and passionate about issues facing youth such as employment, entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, education and learning
◊ Demonstrate passion and experience on working of research initiatives with youth-led Civil Society Organisations and other agencies especially partners with Mastercard Foundation and Restless Development)
◊ Demonstrate self-drive and ability to work independently without physical supervision with virtual and remote support
◊ Demonstrate ability to work in teams to realise set goals and achieve tangible outputs
◊ Ability to articulate and generate valuable insights from young people’s lived experiences in your country or community especially in relation to livelihoods, financial inclusion to inform the research design and findings
◊ Ability to articulate and generate valuable insights from young people’s lived experiences in your country or community in relation to opportunities and approaches to support youth in their use of Information and Communication Technologies to improve access to information, learning, finance, network and livelihood opportunities and for research

Skills and Experience
Essential
