The Global Health Council's Excellence in Media Award is dedicated to drawing attention to health issues that have a global impact.

The award honors those who have in the prior year most effectively captured the essence of a major issue in global health and conveyed it to a broad audience.

The Council welcomes Media Award submissions in the following four categories:

  • Newspaper, Magazine and Major Print Publication (NY Times, the New Yorker, the Economist, TIME Magazine)
  • "New Media" (video, radio, internet-based media)
  • Photojournalism
  • Community Media (community, local, in-country media of all types, including newspaper, community radio and internet-based)

    Nomination Criteria:

  • Entries may be made by any individual or organization from material appearing in print or electronic media
  • Entries may be made by U.S.-based and non-U.S.-based individuals or organizations
  • Entries may be submitted in writing or electronically with a nomination letter
  • Eligible works must have been published or aired between Feb. 28, and February of the previous year.
  • Previous winners are eligible for entry
  • Selection of the awardee is based on the quality of the reporting as well as its wide reach among readers and viewers.
