Australia Awards – Africa Scholarships
Australia Awards – Africa provides a Masters degree to African middle level to senior level professionals from the public sector, private sector and civil society in eligible countries.
The scholarships provide high-quality education and training to talented Africans who, on completion, will be able to return to their home country and make a development contribution.
Scholarships are currently offered for the 2025/26 intake – see the list of eligible countries.
Focus sectors reflect priority areas identified by partner governments and in which Australia is recognised as having world class expertise and experience.

Gender Equality

Applicants will be supported, at all stages of the Award – including the application, on-award and Alumni.

The program gives people with a disability fair and equal opportunities to compete for and obtain a scholarship.
Persons living with a disability, who are eligible, are encouraged to apply for a scholarship and disclose their disability.
Having a disability will not disadvantage individuals in the application or selection process.
Applications will be equitably considered and reasonable adjustments made, where possible, to ensure equitable participation by anyone identified as requiring support.
Chronic Illnesses
Chronic illness, including HIV status, is not a barrier to eligibility.
All eligible individuals, including those who are HIV-positive or living with other chronic illnesses, can apply for a scholarship.
Disclosure is encouraged for the purposes of developing a support plan.
The program promotes equal opportunities for all applicants.

Eligibility for Australia Awards Africa Masters Scholarships
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet their country’s eligibility requirements.
Generally, the following requirements apply:
• Citizen of an eligible African country
• Minimum academic requirement: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Mid-level to senior-level professional, currently employed in a relevant field
• Meet relevant post-graduate work experience requirements
• Demonstrate a clear vision of how the knowledge gained through the scholarship will be used to improve policy, practice or reform in their home country
• Satisfactory English proficiency to enable full participation in a training course delivered in English
• Satisfy all requirements of the Australian Government for the appropriate student visa (subclass 500).
In addition, employers of public sector applicants will be required to endorse the application.
